ANTIQUE Hopkins & Allen XL No4 NY Rimfire Revolver
.38 Rimfire Revolver with Nice Rosewood Grips
Here we present an antique Hopkins & Allen XL No. 4 .38 Revolver, made circa 1880 in Norwich, Connecticut. This revolver was made for civilian self-defense, and was part of a line of other “XL” revolvers of various sizes and calibers. The No. 4 was chambered for 5 shots of .38 Rimfire. The finish is nickel and the grips nice Rosewood. The grip shape is an attractive birds head style.
The top of the frame is marked “HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG. CO./XL NO. 4 NY/PAT. MAR. 28 1871”.
The overall condition is near fine. The original nickel finish is about 35%. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are slightly worn, but smooth and in very good shape. The bore is sharp and clean. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice, late-19th Century revolver!
