The AyA Augusta represents the best in Spanish over under shotguns. An improvement over the Model 37, only a few of these guns were made each year. Based on the Merkel action, these guns embody the top of the line in Spanish guns. This one comes in its original oak and leather case, velvet lined, with all the tools in gold plating including a set of 3 turnscrews.
The gun is a true sidelock with cocking indicators. These guns are supposed to be hand detachable sidelocks by using a fingernail or small knife at the top of the plates but I do not see that on this gun; but I did not try to force it either.
This makes quite a nice presentation in its case. I am sure the replacement cost of a Spanish gun of this quality today would be 2-3 times the price of this gun and it is in excellent condition.
This firearm is from the Oliver-Brice collection. The principal owned a private equity investment firm in Switzerland which allowed him to travel extensively in the UK and Europe. His passion was finding and researching high quality/investment grade British and European double shotguns. His collection is extensive and includes a number of unique firearms like this one. The owner would consider a trade of a fine/collector watch as he is a collector of those as well.
