Description:
SOLD...Antique Merwin & Hulber revolver.. .38 caliber SA 5 1/2” barrel. Here is a very nice Merwin & Hulbert revolver. It is the third type medium frame with trigger guard and with the “skull cracker” butt style. It is single action and the caliber is the .38 M&H which is the same as the S&W .38.. This gun retains most of it's original nickel finish. The barrel has 97% finish. The cylinder has 97%. The frame has about 70% including the front and rear grip straps. Some VERY light pin prick roughness only on the left side of the frame where the nickel has flaked off. {see photo}. Nothing bad at all. Just shows very normal light use. All the markings are excellent with the normal light stamped markings on the side of the frame as is very common on this model. S/N 25575 and ALL matching on the frame, barrel and cylinder. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Rock solid barrel to frame lock up. Perfect hammer notches half cock and full cock. The bore is excellent and bright and shiny with just a few minor specks of roughness from black powder down in the groves. The cylinder chambers are near excellent with some very light surface crud that I am sure will clean to bright. The grips are rough on the bottoms and a repair has been made on the upper area of the right side.{see photo}.. A nice fit with no other splits or cracks. It is what it is here... All the screw heads are clean and not burred up from tinkering with a Stanley screw driver .. Original untouched front sight never filed on or messed with. All in all, not a bad ole M&H priced reasonable. Of course if it had perfect grips would be priced higher but it is what it is folks. Fairly rare configuration with the longer barrel and skull cracker butt. These M&H are becoming very collectible in the last few years and prices have came up. Very well made guns and here is a gun that you will probably never see a reproduction made like all the other revolvers and rifles of the time. Very complex and intricate machine work on making these M&H's and actually made before their time compared to other revolvers that were much easier to manufacture. Here is one priced right. $15 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
