Description:
Special order Model 1894 with 8 features, including a factory matted rapid taper octagon barrel. Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are rightly proud to offer this highly optioned version of the most popular rifle ever made, the Winchester 1894. This one was special ordered in deluxe form, with gorgeous figured walnut, checkered pistol grip, shotgun butt, takedown, 2/3 magazine, and lightweight octagonal barrel. The icing on the cake is that the top of the barrel was factory matted, one of the most scarce of all Winchester options. All told, this is one of the most special guns we have ever offered. She is in very good condition, but probably did put some meat on the table. The highly figured wood has some light scratches, but is all there. The checkering is very good, too. The action is crisp and smooth, works as designed, including the half cock safety. The bore is good, with plenty of shine and strong rifling. Made in the year of our Lord 1921, she probably never saw black powder. This rifle will take down in a bout 10 seconds, and lock up tight just as fast. The Winchester book tells us that although barrel matting was a factory option, very few were ordered that way. It is interesting to note that the caliber markings and proof mark are offset due to the matting. The barrel is a very small octagon, the equivalent of a pencil round barrel, with a muzzle diameter of only 9/16ths of an inch. This rifle pegs the rarity table several times, and I included it for your reference. By the time this gun was made, round barrels dominated, and most '94s were carbines. This is the kind of special order Winchester that stands out in any collection, and will continue to increase in value. If you have been looking for the right 1894 to collect or for investment, but want the added clout of a scarce matted barrel, then look no further. If you don't like this one, I see a very nice 1894 deluxe listed by Don Grove that substitutes the matted barrel for a half round barrel and climbin' Lyman sight. It is listed for 11 thousand.
