Description:
SOLD ** Searcy Vektor .450 Rigby

You probably haven’t heard of the 450 Rigby, just introduced in 1995; yet, the book, Cartridges of the World, rates it a better choice than the .458 Win Mag, the .458 Lott, and the .460 Weatherby, see below “About the .450 Rigby cartridge.”  This big bore round needs a big gun and the Searcy Vektor, made in South Africa where they know big bores, is the perfect medicine.

Rifle Description:
Searcy Vektor by Butch Searcy of Boron, California, .450 Rigby, built on a South African Vektor true magnum length double square bridge magnum Mauser action. 25" Krieger barrel (1 in 16” twist) with NECG banded ramp Holland & Holland front sight which is a fine bead with alternate flip up twilight sight, banded front sling swivel, large hidden recoil lug 6” forward of the receiver, and an NECG island rear sight with its standing shallow V leaf (preferred by professional hunters for dangerous game).

Features include: Oberndorf style bolt handle, jeweled bolt and extractor, two position side swing safety with contoured bolt sleeve, drop box bottom metal with straddle floorplate and trigger bow release. The latter two are modestly engraved in Searcy tradition bouquets of roses by Jerome Glimm, who also engraved a pleasing 3-panel checkering pattern on the stainless steel bolt handle. It has a fully adjustable trigger and all screws are timed or indexed.

Stocked in beautiful streaked Russian walnut (from Kamchatka, over a hundred years old), with highly desirable fiddle-back or tiger-stripe grain and warm colors running full length. The grain is laid out proper for big bore strength. Stock accessories include: two reinforcing cross bolts, ebony forend tip, ebony grip cap, two-screw inletted rear sling swivel stud, a nicely designed and sculptured shadow line cheekpiece, and a vacant inlaid monogram gold oval. The generous wrap-around checkering is 24 LPI in classic point pattern; checkering diamonds are still sharp to the touch. The LOP is 14" over a 7/8” dark brown leather-covered recoil pad. Weight: 10lb 8oz with scope.

The big double square bridge has been fitted with Talley bases for Talley detachable rings. The scope is a Nikon Monarch African 1-4x20 with renowned Nikon clarity and especially built to withstand the heaviest recoil.

Inscriptions:  The receiver bridge is inscribed: “B.SEARCY & CO. BORON, CA.”  The serial number, 512, is located on the left side of the front receiver ring, and the chambering designation, 450 Rigby, engraved on the left side of the chamber area.
Although built heavy to sustain recoil, this rifle comes to hand quickly as a true Big Bore rifle with perfect balance, and with sights aligned dead-on.

About the 450 Rigby cartridge: According to Cartridges of the World, Frank C. Barnes states:
“In its standard factory loading, this cartridge throws a .480-grain Woodleigh soft-nose or solid bullet at 2350fps. This gives it quite a trajectory and terminal-performance edge on the 450-470 group, and it far surpasses the somewhat overstrained .458 Win Mag. The case is basically the same one that the .416 Rigby uses, with a sharp shoulder for good and consistent resistance to the striker blow, and with a .458-inch bullet. Similar in size to the .460 Weatherby [and the .458 Lott], this improved design is unhampered by a belt and thus gives smooth, quiet and sure feeding from the magazine. This will be a good choice for the person wanting to take only one rifle to Africa.”
Condition is excellent-plus; proof-fired only. It is built the way a functional big bore should be, but also with style and elegance. It is a true custom hand-made by a master gunmaker, a Best rifle, and it’s ready to go to Africa.
