Description:
***********************************Rifle is Sold Pending Funds***********************************************

Up for sale is a Mauser Oberndorf made BYF 44 K98 rifle, the rifle is from the “L” block which would put it in November\December for production.  Rifle is all matching and in overall very nice condition.  White glue stock has not been sanded and has a clear e/135 proof on the side with a lot of “chatter” on the wood.  Much of the original bluing remains and rifle shows well, Mauser remained one of the premier finishers of these rifles right up to the end of the war.  Rifle includes a mix of stamped and milled parts, all properly proofed and is a good representative example of the manufacturing simplifications the Germans instituted over the final months of the war.  As a “Kriegsmodell” only 5 parts are numbered, the Receiver, Bolt Body, Bolt Sleeve, Firing Pin and Cocking piece.  Rifle is not Duffel cut and includes an original site hood and cleaning rod.   The bore is very good with strong rifling up to the final inch before the muzzle where it is ringed, this probably happened when the rifle was fired with the rubber muzzle cap in place.  This is not visible from the outside and you have to look hard to see it when looking down the bore, it would only come into play if you were planning to shoot, accuracy would not be up to normal German standards.  Otherwise this is a very nice all matching late war rifle that shows well and has not been abused or altered.  An excellent addition to any German WWII collection.

I have an original K98 sling I can add to the rifle for $100 if buyer is interested.

Rifle includes a 3 day non-firing inspection period

Rifle must ship to an FFL or FFL C&R

Shipping for the lower 48 is $40, Alaska\Hawaii are at cost

For an excellent overview of these late war rifles see Kriegsmodell by Michael Steves and Bruce Karem at Third Party Press
