Description:
This is a very nice and scarce Remington Model 600 Mohawk in .243 Winchester caliber complete with a period Weaver K4 scope mounted on Weaver bases and rings.  The Mohawk was a promotional model featuring an 18.5 inch barrel with no rib, and was manufactured from 1971 to 1979.  The late Jeff Cooper was a big fan of the 600 series from Remington and used the platform as the basis for his "Scout" rifle designs.  This rifle was made in May of 1975 and is in excellent overall condition.  The rifle retains 98% of it's factory gloss blue finish, and the bore is minty and bright.  There is no pitting or signs of erosion in the bore and the rifling still looks strong with sharp lands and grooves.  The 18.5 inch barrel came from the factory with nice adjustable iron sights and the receiver was factory drilled and tapped for optics.   The action on this rifle is excellent with a smooth action and a light and crisp trigger pull.  The plastic trigger guard and floorplate show some very minor warping, much better than most of these we have seen over the years.  The factory checkered hardwood stock is also in excellent condition; it is free from cracks or repairs and only has some very minor handling marks on it visible only under close inspection.  It features a checkered forearm and pistol grip, and a black plastic Remington branded buttplate that is in great shape and pulls 14 inches to the end of the plate.  This Mohawk comes with a period vintage Weaver K4 scope that is a fixed 4 power and has a standard fine crosshair reticle.  The optics are still nice and clear and the adjustments for windage and elevation still work perfectly.  This is quite a nice package and a rifle that is not often available for sale.  It would be hard to find a better example of this limited production Remington specialty model and should be a fine shooter as well as excellent investment.
