Just received this Colt 1878 12 Gauge Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun which left the factory in the rare #8 Grade Configuration. This 1883 vintage gun is fitted with 30 inch damascus barrels, double triggers, nicely engraved color case-hardened receiver and side-plates, checkered Walnut forearm with ebony tip, checkered Walnut pistol grip stock with a Colt black hard-rubber butt-plate, engraved color case-hardened hammers, blue finished and engraved trigger guard and lower tang. The gun is in fine condition, retaining 60% of its original color case-hardened finish on the receiver and side-plates, with most thinning on the bottom of the receiver, due to handling. The hammers retain most all of their original color case-hardened finish. The action is tight and functions perfectly. The bores are bright, except for a couple of small spots, and the engraved screw heads are un-molested. The nicely figured stock and forearm retain most all of their original finishes, with assorted handling marks/dings. If your looking for one of these Colt 1878 shotguns, in a higher grade configuration, this is it. A very nice looking Colt. Comes with a Colt factory letter stating gun was shipped on May 21, 1883 to B. Kittredge and Company of Cinncinati, Ohio.
