Description:
SOLD..Antique 1860 Colt Conversion. A real nice 1860 Colt Conversion first model. Much better looking in hand than the photos show.. Has the standard 8” barrel. Not cut or restored like so many you will see. Caliber is .44 Colt center fire of course as all of these were in. S/N all matching throughout 199333 with the last 4 digits on the cylinder 9333 all correct. Gun is 100% correct. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Hammer notches are perfect and positive. Rock solid barrel to frame fit. This gun is tight as new and not all loose and rattly like mostly you see in the lower conditions.. Still retains some nickel finish from the conversion as most of these were nickel plated at the time of the conversion. The barrel just has traces of nickel in the protected area around the ejector housing. The cylinder has about 35% and the frame has about 40%. The back strap has 70% with some initials carved on the butt WMM or WWM which ever way you look at it.. {see photo}.. Some light pitting on the loading gate and on the very front of the cylinder from black powder flash but other than that, a very clean and crisp gun. The barrel address is very clear but the last word America is faint as is the S/N on the butt. Colt did not re roll or re stamp markings when they were converted so is very common on these to see some weak markings. Colt PAT. On the frame is very clear.{see photo}.... This gun retains most all the Naval cylinder scene on the cylinder {see photos}. I would say at least 80% still very visible including the “ENGADGED” markings on the very front of the cylinder. Usually this marking is worn off very quickly from holster wear. Very nice and crisp cylinder scene on this one.. Untouched front sight never filed on or messed with. The grips are very good but the right side shows a worn spot that has darkened and a couple very old chip repairs that are hard to see and very well done long ago. The left side is perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs. Shows a little swelling on the bottom front toe area but a perfect factory fit on all other areas of the grip straps and frame... This gun still has the original ejector rod and cross hatched head. Many of these you will find have been replaced with Colt SAA rods and heads and even home made heads as they were easily broken with hard use. This one is completely original.. The bore is very nice with very strong rifling with very little and very light roughness. NO big pits or craters. Still shoots as good as the day it was made. These Colt conversions are VERY accurate revolvers using the hollow base bullets over black powder. The cylinder chambers are still in good condition and original cut to the .44 Colt CF cartridge. Shows some pitting on the ends of the chambers but this does not effect the accuracy or function of the gun in any way.. Over all, this is a very nice and 100% honest 1860 Colt conversion. You have to remember most of this model has seen VERY hard use as these were the very first big bore cartridge guns used by outlaws and lawmen in the day. Way before the “famous” Colt SA was even thought of. These were converted in the late 1860's I believe around 1868. Many you see are either museum grade guns up in the several thousand dollar price range or crappy beaters with cut barrels priced not much below what I am asking for this one. Very reasonably priced for an honest, tight and very shootable condition with an great cylinder scene for the money here!!! Hard to find one in this condition for less $$$. $35 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Thank you for looking and please check back often as I have more quality antique firearms to get listed.
