Pennsylvania Long Rifle Signed J. Stapleton, C. 1840’s, .38 caliber featuring 39 ¼” octagonal pinned barrel on Full length tiger maple stock, top of barrel marked “J. STAPLETON” inside banner. Double set triggers, brass mounted with engraved patch box & 8 point Silver Star on cheek rest. Very good condition overall with some light pitting towards muzzle, stock is in very good condition showing only typical scattered use marks. James Stapleton (1833-1900) spent his whole adult life as one of the finer makers in Todd Township located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania during the mid to late 1800’s & this rifle is a very nice example of his work.
