Description:
The Smith & Wesson Model 15 is also known as the Combat Masterpiece and was introduced in 1949 by that name.  This 2" inch barrel variation is far less common then the 4" inch barrel models and is scarcely encountered on the market today in excellent condition.  The Model 15-5 was manufactured between 1982 and 1988 with the "5" designating the 5th and last engineering change made to this model, the elimination of the cylinder counterbore.  This K-frame Smith and Wesson Model 15-5 is in excellent overall condition.  The original factory gloss blue finish rates a solid 96% with no real finish wear, rather it has some small handling marks and scratches.  There is one small spot on the cylinder in particular where there is finish missing in what looks like a scratch, however we can't feel any imperfection in the metal.  Because there is no scratch, pitting, or gouge in the metal here it could be touched up very easily.  There is a close up picture of this spot provided.  As you can see in the pictures, the grip straps both front and rear are excellent with no thinning or wear showing.  All of the screws appear to be un-turned and pristine.  The sideplate does not show any signs of having been removed since this revolver was assembled at S&W.  The bore in the 2" inch barrel is minty and bright, as are the cylinder bores.  The rifling in the barrel still looks sharp with no signs of pitting or erosion.  The front sight blade has had some bright red paint applied to it for better visibility, otherwise it is in excellent shape. The rear sight is a factory adjustable style that is adjustable for both windage and elevation, and is in excellent condition.  The original checkered Walnut grips with the S&W medallions in them are in beautiful condition.  They are clean with crisp checkering and retain 98% of the factory clear finish.  They are completely free from cracks or repairs and are nicely fit to this pistol's grip frame.  The action on this revolver is very smooth, positive, and tight.  These vintage guns have a feel that you just don't get on the comparable new production models.  In the 1980's when this example was made, there was still some hand fitting of parts by very skilled employees.  In both single and double action modes of operation the trigger breaks cleanly, without grittiness or too much weight.  All of the controls on this revolver work 100% like the day it left the factory.  If you have been looking for .38 Special revolver that is both reliable and a little unique, this 2" barrel Model 15-5 would be both a great choice and wise investment!
