CIVIL WAR Antique U.S. Model 1840 NCO Sword

Made by Ames Mfg. Co. Dated “1865”

Here we present an antique Ames U.S. Model 1840 Non-Commissions Officer’s Sword, made in 1865 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. The Model 1840 NCO was adopted in that year and issued to sergeants as a secondary weapon. It saw use primarily during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. This specimen is maker marked “AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE MASS.” and “US/J.F./1865”. “J.F.” are the inspector’s initials. Another set of initials are located on the guard: “A.D.K.” for A.D. King. Overall condition is fine.
