Description:
PRICE REDUCTION!!!

This Kentucky rifle was made circa 1840 by Abias Butler Smith and is featured in The Longrifles of Western Pennsylvania by Rick Rosenberger and Charlie Kaufmann as gun number 26.  Considered to be one of Smith's finest works, this rifle has not been offered for sale in over 30 years.

Both its architecture and embellishments demonstrate refinement that make it difficult to put down.  From the keyhole pierced patchbox to its many silver inlays, including a great floral pinwheel with silver wire inlay and engraved chicken-eagle, the rifle is a fine example of Western PA gun making that would be at home in any advanced collection.

As the above-referenced authors note, the gun has a .38 caliber rifled barrel that is 44 inches in length.  Overall, the gun is 60 inches in length.  The gun's lock, in its original flint state, was made by Richard Ashmore and imported from Britain.

Smith was both a gunsmith and an inventor of note, holding several patents.  He worked during the Civil War at the Fort Pitt Cannon Foundry.

To discuss this rifle or to schedule a viewing of it, please reply through Guns International or contact Steve at (540) 520-6378 or Robert at (540) 294-2247.  Please note that the book photos are for reference purposes; the book itself is not for sale.  Thanks for taking a look at my listing.
