Blue and color case hardened with 4” octagon bbl, pin front sight and engraved Saml Colt. The left side of the frame is engraved COLTS PATENT in a double arc shape. The silver plated backstrap and trigger guard contain a select walnut one piece grip. The five shot cylinder contains the stagecoach holdup scene roll marking. Manufactured in 1855, this revolver is beautifully engraved in the Gustave Young style. While one can’t be 100% certain that it is by his hand it is most definitely out of his shop. The rosewood case is lined with its original burgundy velvet and is accompanied by the correct eagle on hummock flask, brass straight leg Colt’s Patent mold w/o sprue cutter, nipple wrench and Eley cap tin. There is a small piece of wood divider missing (see pictures) and an unobtrusive shrinkage crack in the lid that doesn’t detract from the overall appearance of the case. The lid has a brass presentation plate that is inscribed “D. Webster Davis”. This item was purchased a number of years ago at a PAGCA show in Pottstown, PA. A preliminary search of the LDS archives list a D. Webster Davis born in Pottstown in 1837. More research could prove interesting. CONDITION: The revolver is in overall very fine condition with all matching numbers. The barrel retains 90% to 95% of its original blue with the wear being on the edges. The bore is slick and bright with only one extremely small patch of erosion. The frame, hammer and loading lever show a generous amount of beautiful muted case coloring. The trigger guard and backstrap retain about 95% of their silver plating with the wear being on the trigger guard at the frame. The grips have their original varnish and show a few small handling marks. Check out the pictures since they serve as a part of the description and if you have any questions, I’m always happy to respond. Thanks for looking. Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance costs.
