Description: From the famous W Keith Neal collection the card with his signature found in the case says "This Purdey Gun No. 287 was made about 1820 as a flint-lock, but subsequently rebuilt by Purdey\'s as a copper cap gun and apparently never used since, as it is in mint condition. I purchased it from Mr. Howes, late of secretary to Purdey\'s to whom it was given by a customer of Purdey\'s. It is of great interest having Purdey\'s original intercepting sear locks and safety lever. It will be noticed that the case retains it\'s original compartments for the locks which still fit but not quite so well with the percussion hammers. The serial number appears on both the barrels and the edge of the lock plates. The trade card is the first one at the first address of Princess St. Leicester Square." This is an extremely rare Purdey in excellent condition. Mr. Neal describes the gun as mint but I would give it a near mint as it has some handling marks. The gun comes with the signed letter from Purdey and the signed card by W. Keith Neal. It is of note that the gun is featured on two pages, one a color plate, in Donald Dallas\'s "Purdey - The Definitive History." *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 3419 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection. |
