“1 TEX” Cased Harrington & Richardson VEST POCKET
Early 20th Century Nickeled H&R .32 S&W Revolver
Here we present a Harrington & Richardson “VEST POCKET SAFETY HAMMER” .32 S&W Revolver, made circa the early 1900s in Worcester, Massachusetts. This interesting little double action revolver was made for concealed carry self-defense in the early 20th Century. It holds 5 shots of .32 S&W with a 2-inch barrel. The most unique part of this revolver is the bobbed hammer, which is knurled on top so that one can cock the hammer, either for use in single action mode or to put into half-cock for loading and unloading. The patent date on the revolver’s hammer in April 5, 1887. “VEST POCKET SAFETY HAMMER” is marked on top of the frame.
It comes, nicely custom cased, with an old “EXCELSIOR” button, which has military connections. The case is trimmed with fancy hardware featuring two faces in the design. The medallion on the front of the case is marked “J SMITH/1 TEX/”Rebb”/1899”. The “1 TEX” reference is of the 1st Texas Infantry, a Confederate infantry unit that took 194 casualties of 226 fighting men at Sharpsburg. In all likelihood, this set was put together as a commemorative gift to a veteran of the 1st Texas in 1899.
The overall condition is very fine. The original nickel finish is 90%+. The markings are clear and legible. The hard rubber grips are original and fine. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a great looking gun in a nice little case!
