Description:
Barley Twist Cane carve from one piece of hickory. Early American Folk Art Cane. Nice hand carved primitive cane. It is 36 1/2 in. long. Finding an antique cane that is tall enough for a 6 foot man is unusual. The top of the shaft is a Polished beef bone handle. The handle shows some cracking but is completely stable. The shaft is expertly carved with a double barley twist. The old varnish has many checks and give this stick a wonderful patina that could only be accomplished with age. It has a crack that runs the length of the stick, but does not effect the strength strength of the cane in anyway. It is ready to use and still has years of use left in it. This is the type of item that lends great authenticity to your re-enactor persona and at the same time increases in value and should bring back good value if you ever wish to sell. It displays well.
