Post-CIVIL WAR Antique COLT 1849 POCKET Revolver
Made in 1867 in Original Percussion
Here we present an antique Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver, made in 1867 in Hartford, Connecticut. This was made after the American Civil War and Colt continued to be very successful with this line of revolvers all the way up until Smith & Wesson’s grip was loosened by the expiration of the Rollin White Patent for the bored through cylinder. Some of these were either converted or made originally in the factory to handle cartridges, but this one remains in percussion. It did a fine job as a self-defense handgun for the average citizen in 19th Century America.
This example features a silver placard tacked into the right side of the grip. The barrel address is a single line “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK US AMERICA”. “COLTS PATENT” and “.31” are marked on the left side of the frame.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are regaining a gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match with the exceptions of the cylinder and loading lever. The grip is smooth and shows period wear from carry. The bore is in good shape. The action is excellent. Here is a great and very affordable example of one of Colt’s most successful revolvers!
