Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: We are pleased to offer this all-original 1st year production Winchester Model 1887 12 gauge shotgun. This was Winchester's 1st repeating shotgun, designed by John Browning, that they manufactured and sold to the public. Mr. Browning wanted to design a slide action repeater as he felt this was a more appropriate shotgun design, but the Winchester company argued that they were known as a lever action gun company and they wanted their shotgun to match the public's perception of the company. The Model 1887 was the result. This lever action shotgun with a rolling breech and exposed hammer held 5 rounds in the tubular magazine and 1 in the chamber for a total of 6 rounds in a fully loaded gun. This particular example is serial number 355, made the very first year of production in 1887 and is in all original condition. It has some original factory blue finish in some of the protected areas of the barrel and magazine with the balance of the metal showing a gray/brown patina. The mechanics of this shotgun are in excellent condition. The action locks up tight when in battery and the lever action functions 100% like it was designed to. The action is tight and smooth when worked, it appears this gun was shot very little and well cared for. The 30 inch barrel which is choked "full" has some frost and pitting throughout but is free from any dents or bulges. The pitting appears to be shallow without any major bad spots. The original American Walnut stock set is in great condition. It is free from cracks or repairs, and it still has the original metal buttplate which has been stippled by a previous owner to aid in grip. This first year production Winchester 1887 shotgun would be an excellent addition to any Winchester collection, and would also be a very interesting decorator/wall hanger as well. As an antique this can be shipped directly to the purchaser.
