Description:
13.9mm (.547), 36.25" barrel, s/n 79149. Bright finish, beech stock. Lock marked AMBERG 1863 in a arc over the Bavarian crown. Long range rear sight, sling swivels, t cleaning rod, reproduction sling. These "capping breechloaders" were bolt action alterations of the Bavarian M-1858 Podewils muzzle loading rifle musket, using Edward Linder's alteration process. These rifles saw service during the Franco-Prussian War. The Podewils-Linder was quickly replaced by the Bavarian Werder breechloading rifle, resulting in a fairly short service life for these interesting alterations. Rare and interesting rifle in very good condition. Wood is very good with no cracks with metal showing some light roughness with clear markings. Nipple is good with crisp action.
