Description:
The S&W Centennial "Pre-Model 40" was made from 1952 to 1957. The 5-shot double action only revolvers were fitted with a 2 inch pinned barrel, built on the 4-screw round butt frame with lemon-squeezer style grip safety, blue or nickel finished, and were chambered in .38 Specail. This early flat latch, 4-digit serial number (2516) gun is as described and is blue finished. It is in very good condition, retaining 90% of its original blue finish, with spotting overall due to poor storage. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, again with a couple of areas of spotting in the grooves. The action works perfectly with a good lock-up and the factory smooth grips are in very good condition, with some handling marks. Gun is all numbers matching: frame to cylinder, grips, barrel, and crane. When the grips are off, can be seen that the pin is still in the frame, which can be used to lock the grip safety in the forward position.
