Description:
This is easily the nicest Harrington & Richardson revolver we have ever had.  It was manufactured in the 1930's and is in near-mint condition.  It has 99% of the beautiful original high gloss factory blue finish remaining.  Many people are unaware that H&R ever produced such a beautiful blue finish on their revolvers.  The bores in the 6-inch barrel and cylinder are minty and bright.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there is zero pitting or erosion in either part.  While the top of the barrel is stamped with the maker's name and address, H&R used acid etching to put the model name on the side of the barrel and the patent number on the cylinder.  The sights are in perfect working order and feature an elevation adjustable front blade and windage adjustable rear sight.  The 1-piece checkered American Walnut grip is in excellent condition, it shows no signs of wear and is free from cracks or repairs.  The checkering is still clean and crisp, and still provides great purchase on the grip.  The quality of workmanship, the fit and finish, the quality of the blued finish, and the smoothness of the action on this H&R is equal to or better than just about any pre-war Smith & Wesson.  Everything on this revolver works 100% like it did when it left the factory 80 plus years ago.  This example is a "1st Model" 199 with an "S" prefix in the serial number denoting that it is a single action model, which is scarcer than the double action variation of this model.  Any serious H&R collector should have an example of this fine revolver in their collection and given the high condition of this Sportsman, it would be nearly impossible to find a better example!
