Description:
Winchester Model 21 16 Gauge SxS
IC/M CHOKES, FACTORY ORIGINAL, HESSIAN FOREARM

General Specs: Winchester, Year 1957, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 10oz, Side-by-Side
Serial Number: 28772

When John Olin wanted to have title to the strongest side by side shotgun in the world, he went to work and got it done.  The Model 21 is an American icon and its reputation is well deserved.  A strikingly handsome gun with the finest steels, gunners in the know have utilized the Winchester Model 21 in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure.  IF YOU LIKE HEAVY LOADS FOR PHEASANTS OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS THE GUN.  Most double gun enthusiasts are well-aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of far superior strength and mechanical genius that was under the micro management of John Olin himself. With only 32,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm sure to appreciate as you enjoy its use. They made 5 times more 12 gauge guns than 16 gauge guns, and almost 3 times as many 20 gauge guns than 16's.  From 1930 to 1943 they only made 1034 16 gauge guns in all grades, most of them Standard Grades or Skeet Grades.  In the next 3 decades they only made a few hundred more, maybe 1500 total production in 16ga.  Most realize the superior ballistics of the 16ga. for upland birds compared to the 20ga. and readily choose the 16.  This M21, sn28772 made in 1953, has not been altered from its original configuration since it left the factory except someone added a pad for recoil reduction.  We have the Cody Museum records for your review.  Model 21’s had several shapes and sizes of beavertail forends, and this one is the smallest, slimmest offered, referred to as the “Hessian style” and is most desirable and not often seen.  All of the finishes, including the wood finish, is factory original.  It is hard to find these guns IC/M chokes.  No cracks or repairs in the wood, nice figure wood with excellent checkering and wood to metal fit, mirror bores, barrels tight on hinge pin and breech face, perfect mechanics with strong well-timed ejectors…this gun is just the way you like to find them.  Just a bit of wear on the floor plate which is normal on a Model 21.  What a great upland gun and at a price you can afford.  Thanks for looking!
