Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: VERY NICE Antique SPRINGFIELD 1879 TRAPDOOR Rifle The Original 45-70 GOVT, Dated “1883” Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle, made circa 1883 by Springfield Armory. Amazingly, despite the adoption of the ill-fated Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Bolt Action Magazine Rifle, new models of trapdoor rifles continued to be produced and used all the way through the mid-1890s, until finally, the Krag-Jorgensen was adopted. The U.S. continued to see unrest and conflict with the displaced Native Americans during this time, including the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th, 1890. Trapdoors continued to see use all the way through the Spanish American War. This specimen is marked “U.S./MODEL/1873” on the breech. The lock is marked “Eagle/U.S./Springfield”. The left side of the barrel bears the “V/P/Eagle head” proof marks. The left side of the stock bears the inspector cartouche of Samuel W. Porter and the year date “1883”. Behind the trigger guard tang is the “P” marking. The overall condition is very good. The barrel bears much of the original blue finish, turning plum. The case colors are still visible on the breechblock. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is in very nice shape with a few old handling marks and a very clear cartouche. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice US government issue rifle from the Indian Wars-era! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-5/8 inches. Caliber: .45-70 Government Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
