Antique “Guardian American Model of 1878” Revolver
Engraved Belgian Lefaucheux Pinfire Revolver
Here we present an antique “The Guardian American Model of 1878” Pinfire Revolver, made in Belgium circa 1880 by Fagnus & Clément. Casimir Lefaucheux patented the pinfire cartridge in 1835 and son Eugene designed the pistol. The pinfire cartridge was one of the first successful self-contained cartridges in history, and the pistol saw prolific use in Europe during the 19th century, even being adopted by some militaries.
This example is an engraved concealed carry version with a small stature and a foldable trigger. The grips are sculpted gutta percha with a vining motif. The front sight is a conical tower with a large bead. Frame, cylinder and barrel are all engraved with floral and geometric patterns. The cylinder is Liege proofed and marked “The Guardian American Model of 1878”.
The overall condition is very good. The engraving and other markings are clear. The numbers match. The metal is mostly dark with age. The gutta percha grips are in very good condition. The bore is sharp and oxidized. The trigger return spring is damaged, preventing double action from working properly. The hammer does function in single action. Despite the action, this is a very pretty face for your collection.
