Description:
This is a beautiful 4th Issue Colt Detective Special!  The Colt Detective Special was introduced in 1947 and was produced in 4 different "issues" in a non-continuos run thru 1995.  The "3rd Issue" Detective Specials ran from 1973 to 1986 when production was halted.  Colt brought the model back for a "4th Issue" for three years from 1993 to 1995.  This example is serial number AE1397, making it's date of production sometime in 1994.  It was unchanged from the 3rd Issue models other than the grips, which were now offered in black rubber with silver Colt medallions in addition to the standard wooden grips.  This example is in beautiful, minty condition.  The factory gloss blue finish rates a solid 98%, you have to look very closely and carefully to find any deductions.  The only areas we can find that are maybe worth deductions are on the cylinder.  There is a very faint drag line around the cylinder to the bolt stops, a tiny bit of thinning to the front of the cylinder in spots, and a very small ding the size of a ball point pen tip to the rear of one of the bolt stops.  All of this stuff is extremely minor and does not detract from the overall apearance of this Colt.  As you can see in the pictures, it looks like it left the factory last week rather than almost 24 years ago.  The bore is minty and bright in this revolver.  The rifling shows sharp lands and grooves and shows no signs of wear, pitting, or erosion.  The cylinders bores are also bright and clean.  The factory black rubber checkered grips with the silver Rampant Colt medallions are perfect.  They are clean with no signs of wear, and there are no tears, chunks, or gouges in them.  This Detective Special works 100% like the day it left the factory.  It has a nice and smooth action whether it is being worked in double or single action operation.  It is perfectly "in time" and at full lock there is zero play in the cylinder.  The trigger is surprisingly good for a snub nose gun designed for defensive carry, it breaks cleanly with no creep or grittiness.  This nearly pristine Detective Special would be a great addition to any Colt collection and would be nearly impossible to upgrade from in terms of condition.  While the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd issue guns are often available, the short production run of these 4th issue guns make them much harder to find in such excellent condition.
