Description:
SN: 5831. Manufactured in Gardone, Italy. The Zanotti family has been manufacturing handmade complete guns since the 17th century, making them one of the oldest manufacturers in the world, producing about 10 to 12 fine custom shotguns annually.
Single bead sight on the matte vent rib with ported barrels, standard maker's marks on the left side of the barrels and New England Firearms Co. importer mark on the right, 3 inch chambers, ejectors, and IC/M chokes. The receiver and side plates feature full coverage tight floral scroll engraving with "ZANOTTI 1625" on the left, "GARDONE V.T." on the right and "MODELLO 725" on the underside, all in fine gold inlay. The break lever has been decoratively pierced to give it the appearance of an animal (likely a dog). Single selective trigger with tang mounted safety/selector switch. With a finely checkered forearm, and straight grip stock with a checkered bare butt. Stock measurements are:1 1/4 inch drop at comb; 1 3/4 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull. With unmarked red leather takedown case.
Excellent 97% plus original blue finish remains with crisp markings, and some light handling marks. The receiver and side plates have 98% vivid original case colors with sharp engraving some visible silvering at the hinge, and marks from moving the safety on the upper tang. The wood is also excellent with crisp checkering, attractive color, and just a few small scattered dings. Mechanically excellent. Case is about good with scuffs and wear on the exterior.
