CIVIL WAR Antique US 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword
Patriotically Etched Marked “FEELER” & “E.R.B.”
Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword, made circa 1860. The Model 1850 had a service life of 1850-72, with the climax of the action being the American Civil War, followed by the Indian Wars. This example features a 32-inch, etched blade with two-thirds coverage. The right side of the blade features the initials “E.R.B.”, cannon, shield, flags, “U.S.” as the centerpiece, with scroll filling in the rest. The left side is marked “FEELER”, scroll and an eagle holding a banner marked “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. The guard is marked “U.S.”
The overall condition is very good. The iron has an untouched gray patina. Etching is clear. The original leather grip is thin in areas, but still in very good shape. Wire wrap is original. Original washer. Here is a very nice 1850 Officer’s Sword that would be fantastic on display!
