Description:
Serial #1328117, .30-06, 24" Star Gauge barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This rifle was purchased from the estate of WW2 Vet Frederick Page who was in the Pacific Theater with the 841 Engineers Company B Service number # 32487193. "PAGE" is stamped under the buttplate. The tags on the rifle were written by Mr. Page and state the gun was used on a ship during WW2. The rifle retains 95-97% of the armory reapplied parkerized finish with a scratch numbered serial number of 1326729 on the bolt which is only 1400 numbers away from the gun. The bolt retaining the original armory bright finish. The barrel has a crisp Star Gauge “turtle" mark on the muzzle, “SA/(flaming bomb)/3-39" behind the front sight base, and exhibits some silvering at the muzzle as well as on a few of the high edges and projections. The stock and handguard have a very nice added varnish over scattered light handling marks with a visible but illegible inspector cartouche on the left side and “D28179" on the top of the handguard just behind the barrel band. A large rack number is stamped onto the toe of the butt just aft of the rear sling swivel: “430". The rifle features its nickel steel oiler in the stock compartment and is outfitted with an original well worn but still serviceable Model 1907 leather sling that is still supple and intact. There are two handwritten notes on tags attached to the front swivel and wrapped around the oiler that indicate that this rifle was overhauled and refurbished at Springfield in 1939 and then used aboard ship during World War II. Unfortunately, there is no supporting documentation but the rack number and U.S. Marine Corps front sight hood do lend some credence. Regardless, this is a very nice rifle with an exceptionally smooth action and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
