Description:
SN 31053.  Cal. 31. This is an all matching gun except the wedge which is numbered 575.  Blue and color case hardened with 4” octagon bbl, pin front sight and engraved Saml Colt.  The left side of the frame is engraved COLTS PATENT.  The silver plated backstrap and trigger guard contain a select walnut one piece grip.  The five shot cylinder contains a well defined standard stagecoach holdup scene.  Manufactured in 1852, this revolver is beautifully engraved in the donut scroll style by Thomas Barlow.  Barlow’s employment with Colt only lasted one year, 1852 to 1853.  His work is featured in the book, “COLT FACTORY ENGRAVERS of the Nineteenth Century” by Herbert G. Houze. The case is in very good condition and is lined with its original burgundy velvet and is accompanied by the correct eagle on hummock flask, brass straight leg Colt’s Patent mold, nipple wrench and Eley cap tin. The case has no cracks or joint separations in the wood while the velvet interior shows wear commensurate with its age.
CONDITION:  The revolver is in overall fine condition with all matching numbers.  The barrel is turning from blue to a pleasing plum patina as is the cylinder.  The frame, hammer and loading lever show faded case coloring.  The trigger guard and backstrap retain 95%+ of their silver plating with the only wear being on the edges.  The beautiful select walnut grips retain all of their original varnish and are in very fine condition.  Check out the pictures since they serve as a part of the description and if you have any questions, I’m always happy to respond.  Thanks for looking.  Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance costs.  I accept money orders, paypal, credit cards (add 3% surcharge) and checks.  If paid with a personal check, item will be held for approximately 10 days in order for check to clear.
