Description:
Eduard Kettner 12 Gauge Side-by-Side
HAMMERS, PRE-1921, 98% FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, AWESOME!

General Specs: Eduard Kettner, Year Pre-1921, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 14oz, SxS
Serial Number: 25111

Eduard Kettner was a well-known marketer of fine guns, and back in the early 1900’s was also a maker of guns.  I like the German made guns and we all know the quality and engineering is always “there”.  I don’t buy many as I favor the American makers, but when a gun in AMAZING FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION FROM PRE-WWI comes to me with great modern shooting dimensions and perfect mechanics, I just have to own it for a while.  This gun was built by Kettner in Suhl, Germany as is evidenced by the “Nitro” stamping on both barrels being in block style characters rather than script style characters.  The astute German gun collectors have given me that tidbit of valuable information.  If the “Nitro” stampings were written in script it would have been made by others and sold by Kettner.  Another stamping on the left barrel, “MARKE “RHENUS” was introduced by Kettner in 1907 and 1908 to note that a gun with that stamping was a premium gun in their product line-up.  This fine hammer gun, serial number 25111, has been difficult to pin down as to manufacturing date, but we know it built prior to 1921 because the proof marks on the gun were discontinued at that time.  We believe the gun to be built in the early 1900’s prior to WWI.  This is an incredibly special find in that the FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES rate at 98% strong barrel blue, 98% vivid case colors, 93% wood finish, perfect screws, checkering barely worn, mirror bores, and mechanically perfect in every way.  Another surprise is the awesome modern stock dimensions with 14 3/8” LOP to the horn butt plate, 2 ¼” DAH, 1 3/8” DAC, and 3/16” cast off and not a crack, split, or repair anywhere.  It appears the gun has never been disassembled…even the checkering on the hammer spurs feels sharp to the touch.  With 29.5” Krupp Steel barrels that are Nitro proofed, tight as new on the breech face and hinge pin and weighing just 6lbs. 14oz. and balanced 3/16” ahead of the hinge pin, this gun is ready for any outdoor challenge you want to put it through.   If you ever wanted a really nice German hammer gun for your vintage shoots or upland game, this is your gun.  It has the original XF/XF chokes and 2 9/16” chambers.  We can alter either to your desires within a few days of your purchase.  Thanks for looking at this fine Kettner hammer gun.
