The "Registered pouch was carried right along with the Wells Fargo strong box and other express company treasure boxes and often had more valuables than the box it's self." It was used on trains and stage coaches alike. It has a handle attached to the leather top and another handle on the bottom. The bag flap is secured with a strap run through six iron loops on the front. The strap attaches on the back with a padlock. It's a very rugged, old express bag with heavy duty stitching up the middle of the back. The handles are attached with steel rivets. It shows age and wear but has a great look with rich coloring in an Old West style. The belt is still solid and attached to its original steel latch at the end. Despite all the heavy loads this pouch has carried, even the bottom of this pouch is still in good shape save for one small wear hole. The leather is still pliable with only showing its age with some staining on the leather, but no breaks or tears. The stitching on the back is tight and strong without a single stitch missing. For it's age this bag is well preserved and would provide a century of service yet. It measures about 36 X 20 inches not including the handle. On the top under the flap it is marked : C.A. HOFFMAN & SON MFRS ARLINGTON CAL. It was an important piece of express and postal history that you don't find everyday. I have added a reproduction iron padlock with keys just for fun. Other items pictured are not included. Payment Cash, postal money order, cashiers check, personal & business checks. Can be ordered with a credit card or paypal at wxx.riverjunction, cxx just type in the number 4993 in the search box. SOLD |
