Description:
Here is a G. Schafer 20 gauge hammer gun. Masterpiece workmanship with deep cut oak and leaf engraving. Exceptional original condition with no refinishing or repairs. Lefaucheux bolting system with solid horn lever and German Silver Plating of lever wearing surfaces. Remarkable action sculpting to accomidate the small bore hammers. Rebounding hammers. Hammer guns in 20 gauge are rare, damascus 20 gauge hammer guns are exceptionally rare as damascus barrel makers made tubes mostly in 10 and 12 gauge and 16 gauge to a lesser extent.
Bore is excellent and measures approximately .630 in each barrel. Chokes are Full and Full. Chambers measure 2 5/8" + and are just a tad short of 2 3/4" using a Galazan gauge. Barrels are a nice long 29 1/2".
The wood is well figured with many mineral streaks. No cracks or repairs. Checkering is sharp and original. The trigger guard is elegant combination of horn and metal and is exceptionally sculpted. LOP is 13 5/8".
