This pattern of Brown Bess is the same that fought Napoleon Bonaparte in numerous iconic battles, as well as the United States and their American Indian Allies during the War of 1812. This pattern may also correctly be called the “India Pattern” since the Honorable East India Company was the entity responsible for this update to the gun that had been around since 1722. When war with France loomed on the horizon, the British Board of Ordnance diverted these muskets from the EIC contract to supply the war effort. The lock is marked “Tower” and crown over “G.R.” standing for Georgius Rex or King George. The cock is of the more elegant “swan neck” variety. There is a broad arrow proof mark on the lock as well. Two more proof marks are stamped into the left side of the barrel. The left side of the stock opposite the lock is marked with what appears to be a “Crown/TH”, though this mark blends very well with the ancient handling marks on this gun. The inside of the ramrod channel is marked with a “III”. The inside of the lock is marked with “Crown/3”. The ramrod is marked “B/31” and “831”. This musket comes with a very old and sturdy leather sling. Overall condition is very good. The barrel has been brought back to white. The other parts are dark with age. The stock has numerous old handling marks, all of which are of the usual variety for a 200+ year old military gun. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is dark and untouched. The action is strong. This is a fantastic example of a British musket which took part in the world altering events around the turn of the 19th Century. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 39 inches in length. Caliber: .75 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
