Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 270 W.C.F. 3rd year
Offering this Winchester Model 70, serial # 6709 chambered in 270 W.C.F. what we now call .270 Winchester. Manufactured in 1937. Blue on barrel and receiver is pretty strong with some wear, call it 85-90%. Bolt is serialized to the receiver and still has the original unmolested Type I safety. Rear bridge has a few extra holes drilled. Barrel 24 inches long with fore sight removed and rear sight fitted with blank wedge. Bore is excellent and has no apparent defects. The fore end screw is missing. Back in the day this was often done to make the rifles shoot better by lessoning the tension on the barrel to wood fit. Call it Poor-boys barrel free floating. LOP is 13 ½ inches from the face of the trigger to the edge of the but pad. The original wood stock has various dings and surface scuffs from use afield and handling. No chips or cracks but one dent in the pistol grip area. Floor plate has been engraved with A.F.G. and 9-1-40, the floor plate and trigger guard has shed virtually all of the blue from carry. These rifles were essentially hand made by real machinist and contain no cast or pot metal. This one is a great candidate for a little restoration and then its continued use.
