Description:
SOLD..Nice Colt 1877 DA Thunderer .41 caliber Etched panel with short and rare 2 ½: barrel with factory letter. S/N 43822. The factory letter states this S/N as 5' gun. In very close exam with jewelers loop I can see the S/N's have double stamped {see photos}.. The numbers look to be correct as you can make out the original numbers but maybe the 8 could be a 3... This would absolutely throw the letter off.. Either who ever stamped them had the wrong number or the factory letter is in error. It is what it is and it absolutely looks like factory 2 1/2” barrel. I just can not explain this one so it is up to you on this part. Barrel has 30% original nickel including an excellent etched panel all totally clear. The cylinder has about 25% to30% and the frame has about 40%. Back strap has about 10% or so. Very hard to see where the nickel finish ends and the clean bare metal around it. This is just a close guess under bright flash lighting. All markings are sharp. The mechanics work excellent in both DA and SA mode and lock up is tight as new when the trigger is pulled just like it is suppose to. Just a trace of bright blue on the rear of the hammer and the bottom back strap screw. No pitting on the gun. The bore is excellent and bright with no pitting or roughness as are all the chambers. The grips are excellent as well with no chips or cracks and a perfect factory fit. Still show all the checkering and fine luster. Screw heads are all sharp and do not look like ever turned. Has the correct long knurled cylinder pin that is in great condition and not all burred up from being pulled out with pliers. Factory letter states .41 caliber, 5”barrel, nickel finish, stocks not listed, Hartley and Graham July 11 1883 in 10 gun shipment. The 5” barrel in this model is rare and this is why I am thinking a factory error but then the S/N's being over stamped just makes it all a big mystery. Selling it cheap for what I have in it and the $100 letter. Good shooter pocket pistol. $25 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
