Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: MUM, Monopod, AA Sight WWII Japanese Type 99 Rifle Made by Toyo Kogyo Arsenal in Desirable Configuration Here we present a Japanese Type 99 Bolt Action Rifle, made circa 1940 at the Toyo Kogyo arsenal in Hiroshima, Japan. Toyo Kogyo was founded in 1920 as a tool manufacturer, then moved into automobile manufacture in 1931. During World War II, the company contributed to the war effort by making rifles for the Japanese military, much like American companies like GM, International Harvester and others did for the U.S. military. Today, we know Toyo Kogyo as Mazda. The Type 99 Rifle was conceived as an upgrade in chambering from the Type 38 Rifle designed by Nambu. While the 38 utilized the 6.5x50mm cartridge, the 99 was made to handle the larger, more powerful 7.7x58mm. These rifles were simple and very effective. Nearer the end of the war, with the U.S. successfully restricting traffic to the island nation, raw materials and other resources became more and more scarce, leading the arsenals to simplify production and materials even further. These no-nonsense rifles are known to current collectors as “last ditch”. This example retains features of earlier rifles, such as a wire monopod, steel butt plate, full length handguard on the top of the barrel, and anti-aircraft sights with flip down “wings”. Quite desirable to collectors is the fact that the receiver markings and mum are still present and were not ground off as most were when surrendered. This rifle is mid-way through the 32nd series. The overall condition is near fine. The original blue finish is 80%. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in very good condition. The serial numbers match. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent. Very few, if any, rifles in this configuration and condition are offered currently. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 26 inches. Caliber: 7.7x58mm Japanese Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
