Description:
#4816 Marlin-Ballard No. 5 “Pacific Rifle”, octagon barrel, 30”x45/70 caliber with VG bore ..about an “7” on a scale of 10, and a tight action. Made between 1876 to 1891, these were simple, uncomplicated, but VERY sturdy single-shot Sporting Rifles capable of most big game in North America. Very good metal with just minor scattered light pitting, s and bruises under an old grey-brown patina. Markings are somewhat light but readable. Desireable double-set triggers (which were standard on this “Pacific” Model), standard open Rocky Mountain front and low buckhorn Sporting rear barrel sight and the distintive wooden wiping rod beneath the barrel. Unfortunately the wood has seen severe treatment and weather splitting on the forestock …and the buttstock also shows a weather crack. It still is solid enough to be used, but should be cosmetically be repaired to be a better gun. An early 1880s single-shot rifle in a popular big caliber capable for most big game on the North American continent. Betcha it has a pretty noticeable thump to ones shoulder when you pop off a few rounds in this old Boomer!! G-VG as described. $1850
