Description:
SOLD..Very tight and crisp Colt model 1877 DA Lightning .38 caliber Etched Panel with factory letter. Excellent Etched Panel.. Well above average Colt 1877 DA. Factory letter and all correct including shipped to the well know Liddle and Kaeding retailer in San Francisco Ca.... This was a very large retailer early 1870 to 1898.. Lots of info. on them on the web... A true western shipped revolver. This gun is in excellent working condition in both DA and SA mode. Locks up tight as new when the trigger is pulled... This gun retains some of original finish and also the very early and sought after one piece checkered rosewood grips. S/N 5719 and shipped in second year MFG 1878. All matching. Can not see a number on the rear of the cylinder as sometimes found but not on all. No doubt this gun is totally original and all 100% correct. The S/N on the butt is very weak and worn mostly off but with a loop, you can make out a couple partial numbers. These numbers were stamped very close to the edge of the back strap and were very pron to wear and abuse as this one shows. The barrel shows generous amount of bright but thinning blue around the front sight, on the bottom in the protected area of the cylinder pin and were it screws into the frame. Thinning blue scattered on the remainder of the barrel. The cylinder has traces of blue down in the flutes. The back strap shows all of the deep bright blue directly behind the hammer {see photo}. The trigger guard has about 30% or so on the sides and the bottom protected area around the trigger. The frame has very generous amounts of vivid case colors on the left side including right in front of the cylinder {see photos}.. Some also on the right side but mostly right in front of the cylinder also were protected. Also some on the top down in the sight grove were protected.. Most all the bright case colors are remaining inside the frame when you remove the cylinder.. Just a tad bit of lightly cleaned surface crud can be seen below the hammer screw..... The back of the hammer shows most all the very deep and bright fire blue {see photo}.. Also does the rear of the trigger. All the markings are very crisp as is the etched panel on the barrel. The only weak marking is the back strap number as mentioned. Untouched early German silver front sight never filed on or messed with. The grips are very nice as well and show some dings and impression marks. Two tiny 1/16 inch chips on the front toes {see close up photo} but still have the very fine and deep checkering with no other cracks and a perfect factory fit all around. These one piece wood grips are found only on the very early 1877's and are rare.. The screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up from tinkering. The bore is near excellent bright with just a few very minor specks of roughness. The cylinder chambers are minty bright with no roughness. The correct long knurled cylinder pin is excellent as well with no prying or pliers marks as often found... All in all, this is a pretty darn nice, very early second year MFG 1877. Has an excellent shipping ledger, etched panel, one piece wood grips and some original finish for the money. If it don't sell, I don't mind hanging on to it... $25 insured shipping.
