Description:
Serial #4008, .500 CF, 31 3/4" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a small amount of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a nice “ALEXANDER HENRY EDINBURGH AND LONDON" marked rifle that has a lightly engraved, left-hand, non-bolted lock. The barrel has a replacement sporting front blade with a flip-up ladder rear sight graduated to 1200 yards. The metal retains about 97-98% of an overall re-applied blue finish. The breechblock has been polished bright with some mild freckling, and there are some scattered spots of mild freckling throughout. The newly made forend has a faceted nose and is secured by a single screw on the bottom. The original buttstock has some minor handling marks and small blemishes visible in the fairly thick added oil finish. The action locks up tightly, and the rifle rates good-near very good overall. {Ref. “The British Single Shot Rifle" Vol. 1 by Walter Winfer; 1998} Antique
