Description:
Serial #5293, .577/.450 Martini-Henry, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore that has some faint traces of freckling just visible within the Henry rifling. This is an “ALEXANDER HENRY EDINBURGH AND LONDON" marked long rifle, left-hand lock variant that has a generally mottled brown patina with some lighter gray on the sides of the frame. There are patches of pitting along the rear portion of the barrel running back to the long knox form. The walnut forend and buttstock have a very dark added military oil finish over numerous scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes, and the rounded fillets at the rear of the forend have been sanded nearly smooth. The ramrod is no longer present, and pin for the upper barrel band protrudes to the right side of the rifle. Mechanically, the action is tight and fully functional, although the safety slide is currently stuck in the off position. This is a very well-made military pattern rifle by one of Britain's most respected makers and rates about good condition overall. Antique
