We are featuring a stunning pair of Holland & Holland Royal Side-by-Side shotguns in the maker's leather and oak double case. These were purchased new by the owner from the H&H NYC store on August 2, 2001. You can see from the original hang tag that the guns were priced at $165,000 at that time. The owner (deceased) is a former major oil company executive who was a serious collector of fine guns.
Here is what Holland & Holland say about the Royal:
"Of all the shotguns and rifles made by Holland & Holland, it is the Royal for which the company is perhaps best known. Striking a perfect balance between elegance and design, the Holland Royal side-by-side shotgun is the classic London Best Gun.
The epitome of reliability, the traditional 'Royal' side-by-side enjoys a distinct advantage in the field. The H&H self opening mechanism, widely copied by other gun makers, greatly assists with rapid loading. It is often lighter in weight than other designs and with its prized balance and handling properties, is more responsive to the jinks and turns of the driven bird.

These firearms are "as new" and show no signs of being fired or carried. There are no handling marks on the wood. No marks on the metal. No signs of ever having been out of the case. The case has a few scratches/scars on the outside from 15 years of home storage. The accessories include two sets of H&H snap caps as well as an oil bottle, spare parts and cleaning brushes.
These guns are for the serious collector and/or the discriminating sportsman. There is perhaps no higher ranking in the world of modern firearms than a pair of Holland Royals.
