RARE Long-Barreled PATRIOTIC REMINGTON No.2 Pistol
Very Neat Decorated Antique Ivory Grips & Rare 4-Inch Barrel
Here we present an antique Remington Vest Pocket No. 2 Pistol, made circa 1870 in Ilion, New York. This pistol was designed to be an extremely simple 19th Century self-defense tool that you could carry in your: vest pocket. This specimen is chambered in .32 rimfire. Only about 500 are thought to have been made in this caliber. Standard barrel length was 3-1/2 inches, however, we have here a long-barreled version with a 4-inch barrel. In addition, instead of the standard wooden grip panels, this piece features antique ivory grips that have been decorated with patriotic colors and themes. The left grip has a shield and stars, while the right side has flowers and stars. The barrel address reads “REMINGTON’S ILION NY/PAT’D OCT 1 1861 NOV 15 1863”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal has a dark, untouched patina. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in good condition, with a chip off the bottom of the left panel. The bore is in good condition. The action is excellent. Here is a great example of some handmade, patriotic artwork from the end of the 19th Century!
