Description:
This is a pickelhaube-style helmet with the characteristic German fireman's comb-like crest in place of the spike attachment. The front has a simple shield-shaped wappen plate with Gothic “D", and the intact leather chinstrap is fastened by large lion-head brass buttons. The leather is somewhat dried and has shrunk a bit at the edges of the crown, and there are small scuffs and crazing across the surface. Both the front and rear peaks are still firmly attached, and the interior suspensionis intact. German fire helmets from this period are quite rare, and this example rates very good-near fine condition.
