Description:
Serial #448, 11.3 x 51R, 32" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1873 dated rifle that has an overall lightly freckled gray patina with matching numbers on the bolt and receiver. The distinctive magazine housing has retained much of the original blue finish that has some silvering along the edges and plum-brown starting to appear in spots. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes along its entire length along with a few larger bruises and blemishes. The “(crown)/W" royal cypher (William I) and 1873 dated Maastricht cartouche is still crisp and clear on the right side of the buttstock. The rifle comes with an original ramrod, as well as an original socket bayonet with straight, cruciform blade having four hollow ground fullers. The bayonet has an overall dark brown patina with scattered freckling and some spots of pinprick pitting, but fits very well and has a functional locking ring. This is a great example of an early black powder repeating military rifle in fine-near excellent condition. Antique
