Excellent H&A 5-Shot Revolver w Unique Mechanism
Here we present a Hopkins & Allen Triple Action Safety Police Revolver, made circa 1914 in Norwich, Connecticut. This revolver comes complete with its original box. Hopkins & Allen had its roots in the mid-to-late 19th Century, producing revolvers and other firearms under their own name, as well as producing all of the Merwin & Hulbert revolvers. These latter revolvers have been increasingly recognized for their unique design and high-quality manufacture. This 5-shot, .38 S&W revolver features a unique design and high-quality manufacture as well. The frame is a top-break design with two wings to be depressed to open. The most unique feature is the hammer, which moves up and down as the trigger is pulled, effectively mitigating any discharge of the weapon without intentionality.
The top strap of the gun is marked “SAFETY POLICE”. The barrel address is “THE HOPKINS & ALLEN ARMS CO./NORWICH CONN. U.S.A. PAT’D AUG 21 1908”. The hard rubber grips are marked “H&A”. The gun is finished in nickel plate, with the trigger guard accented with blue, and with a case colored hammer.
The overall condition is excellent. The nickel finish is virtually complete. The case colors are vibrant. Markings are clear and legible. The blue is 80%. The grips are in very nice shape. The bore is fine. The action is excellent. The box is original and in very good condition. Here is a scarcely seen revolver with unique features, fine condition and original box!
