Description:
This is a very nice early First Model 1916 Newton rifle in caliber .256 Newton with some nice factory options. It has a cheekpiece, sling swivels and the correct Long Tang Lyman 48 receiver sight. The serial number, 467 is stamped in 10 places on the rifle. The barrel retains about 95% blue, the receiver about 90%, the floor plate 99%, grip about 95%, butt plate about 80% and the front lower portion of the trigger guard has some blue wear. The checkering is in very good condition and the dark walnut wood show some handling marks. The base of the butt has a defect in the wood shown on one picture. There is a hairline crack between the magazine and trigger. I tried to picture it but it is so slight, it did not show. the crack is just ahead of the rough area of wood in the picture. Many Newtons have cracked stocks both in the First and Second models. This rifle is pictured in "The Newton Rifle, Second Edition" on page 94. If you would like to calculate shipping costs, the shipment will weigh 18 lbs. and measure 39x12x5. I ship these in a wooden box.
