Description:
Fantastic J.C.Higgins Model 50 .270 as produced for and marketed by the famed Sears Roebuck & Co. during the early 1950s. There is a 4 digit number of 7140 stamped on underside of receiver which is believed to be the serial number but available online information to confirm this has been thoroughly vague to say the least.
This fine rifle is based on the highest quality Belgium FN Mauser 98 action featuring it's reliable heavy duty claw extractor with controlled round feed and 3 sturdy locking lugs when counting the bolt handle root. Other built in factory features conducive to optional scope use include factory drill holes on top of receiver, a short throw 2 position safety, and a gracefully swept back bolt handle. It's 22" barrel with excellent bore is chrome lined, and such appointed rifles were noted for their superb accuracy.
The shared condition of the original Bluing and Varnish approaches 99% showing only insignificant handling marks here and there. Additionally, this rifle retains it's factory sights, quick release sling swivels, and white spaced plastic butt plate and pistol grip cap.
An overall outstanding example that will make an extremely fine, yet very affordable hunting rifle and/or a proudly displayed collector!
