Description:

Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model 1816 Musket

Here we present an antique Springfield U.S. Model 1816 Musket, made 1837 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This musket would have originally been made in the flintlock format, then updated to percussion to extend its service life. The Model 1816 was the largest production of U.S. flintlock muskets, with an impressive run from 1816-1840. Both national armories, Springfield and Harpers Ferry, were involved as were about 16 different contractors. Conflicts during this period included numerous encounters with Native Americans, as well as the Mexican-American War.

The lock is marked “SPRING/FIELD/1832” and “US” with a federal eagle. This specimen has been modified for sporting use, and the owner has marked his initials “RR” in several places. Metal surfaces have a dark patina. The markings are clear. The bore is smooth with light pitting. The action is functional, though it only has one cock notch.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 38 inches.

Caliber: .69 Percussion
