1870s EUROPEAN Antique Double Action PINFIRE Revolver
With Fancy Sculpted Hard Rubber Grips
Here we present an antique Pinfire Revolver, made in France circa 1870. Casimir Lefaucheux patented the pinfire cartridge in 1835 and son Eugene designed the revolver. The pinfire cartridge was one of the first successful self-contained cartridges in history, and the pistol saw prolific use in Europe during the 19th century, even being adopted by some militaries and police. The cartridge had a firing pin built into the side into which would slam the flat of the hammer as it stuck out of the cylinder.
This revolver holds 6 shots of 9mm Pinfire. The grips are nicely sculpted hard rubber. This revolver functions in both double and single action.
The overall condition is fine. The original nickel finish is 85%. Original blue finish remains on the hammer. The grips are in fine shape with sharp checkering. The bore is clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a great example of a European revolver with a unique firing system!
